“The New ISCA”

The 2008 ISCA Producers Meeting was held the weekend of May 16th and as predicted, there are quite a few changes in the works for 2009 – some small and some not so small.

Let’s start with this magazine, the Showstopper first.  This will be the last printed edition of the Showstopper.  Starting in the near future, the Showstopper will be a continuous online publication, which means we will update it on a daily or weekly basis, whatever is needed.  There will be a yearly publication produced in September-October that will cover all ISCA shows in a picture format from the preceding season.  This new publication will be called the Hot Rod Show World and the first edition is supposed to be ready in time for the SEMA show in November.

The ISCA Competition will have a new look for 2009 and beyond.  There will no longer be two different memberships; everyone that shows in an ISCA sanctioned event will automatically become an ISCA member.  No membership monies will be sent to the ISCA office.  Everyone will pay a $50 registration fee to enter each show and the money will be paid to each show, i.e., World of Wheels Atlanta, Auto-Rama Cleveland, etc.  If a car owner wishes to enter two entries that are legally registered to the same car owner, they will pay $25 for the second entry.

There will be no Regions or Divisions.  The exhibitors are welcome to show anywhere in the country.  The only requirement is that to win a class championship, an entry must win its class at least four (4) times.  Two of these shows must be a smaller show (“A”) and two must be a larger show (“AA”).  For an entry to qualify for a Category Championship, the entry must win at least four (4) Bests or Outstandings in its category during the preceding ISCA season.  There will be five ISCA champions declared annually at pre-determined shows during the season.  The first ISCA season will run from March 28-30, 2008 through April 3-5, 2009 in Quebec City.  The first Category Championship will be held in Houston, TX on Thanksgiving in 2009.  The category has not been determined as of this writing.

As I state above, there will be five Category championships annually.  They will consist of Custom, Rod, Truck, Restored and Street Machine Comp.  The Bike category will be handled on a show-to-show basis as our history shows quite a number of bikes show in each show, but very few travel from show to show.

Starting with this next season, there will no longer be a Display championship.  The Display awards will be given at each show.  Each Display award will consist of a plaque and $100.  The non-electrical display and the 10X20 Display awards will have a plaque only.

In an effort to put some consistency in the monies paid out to our competitors, the ISCA has set mandatory payouts for different size shows.  You will notice every show on the schedule will have an “A” or “AA” by its listing along with a L1, L2, or L3.  The “A” and “AA” is what is needed for qualifying and the L1, L2 or L3 indicates cash payouts and the number of Display awards.  An example would be “AA”  Detroit, MI “L1”.  The following are the three levels:
L1        Will pay $750 for Best of Category Awards
Will pay $300 for Outstanding of Category Awards
Will award 10 Display awards at $100 each

L2        Will Pay $600 for Best of Category Awards
Will pay $250 for Outstanding of Category Awards
Will award 8 Display awards at $100 each

L3        Will pay $500 for Best of Category Awards
Will pay $200 For Outstanding of Category Awards
Will award 6 Display awards at $100 each

Travel money will be paid at the rate of $.50/mile to any exhibitor that travels at least 150 miles one way from his residence to an ISCA show up to 1,000 miles one way.  The Producers will approve any travel money to be paid.
